It’s a representation of how our brains are wired, with each body part drawn in proportion to how much “brain power” we have to control it…

Notice how big the hands and mouth are drawn…

We devote a huge amount of brain power to these body parts, something that serves us well for everyday tasks like speaking, eating, and picking up objects.

But now take a look at how small the midsection is drawn…

The muscles in our hips, glutes, and abdominals have far less brain power allocated to them… and this makes them much more difficult to control in an athletic fashion.

And unfortunately for us, these muscles are absolutely crucial for golf!

You see, our brains are continuously adapting to our day to day routine… they actually rewire and optimize for the activities we perform on a regular basis!

In fact studies looking at accomplished musicians and athletes have found huge improvements in the structure and function of their brains, with larger areas dedicated to the muscles they use for their craft.

So while our brains optimize for our daily activities, the flip side is that they start to “forget” the movements that we don’t perform on a regular basis…

With few exceptions, we are less active than our ancestors, especially when it comes to the muscles in our hips, glutes, and abs…

Over time our brains have rewired, becoming increasingly disconnected from our midsections, and the end result is that our already limited control of these muscles has gotten even worse…

And as we’re about to see, this creates a huge problem for the golf swing!

It's All in the Hips...

Because of their location at the center of the body, your hips and midsection play a crucial role in the golf swing.

On the one end, they connect directly to your legs... This means that everything from your weight transfer to how you use the ground for power is a result of how you move your hips.

And at the other end, your hips connect directly to your torso… and so as your hips move, so does your upper body.

In other words they directly affect the rotation of your torso and shoulders…

So when you get right down to it, your midsection plays a major role in just about every part of your swing… your rotation, your weight transfer, and even things like your posture, balance, and rhythm.

In fact, most of the problems you see in golf - coming over the top, casting, the reverse pivot (and many others) - can be traced back to a mistake at the center of your body.

Even the “Magic Move” that I’m always talking about is a reaction to the proper movement of your hips as you start the downswing.

And it’s not just that… The muscles in your midsection - the hips, glutes, and abs - are some of the strongest in your entire body and are absolutely essential for generating club head speed.
